A Walk In The Woods - Walden Style

"Keep your face always toward the sunshine, and shadows will fall behind you." - Walt Whitman

One of my favorite outings on our trip to Boston last weekend, was our hike at Walden Pond.  When I was doing my solo traveling with my dog Margeaux back in 2024, I drove past the pond, but alas, I could not enter, as NO DOGS ALLOWED, greeted me at the gate.

The dogs, both dogs, were kennelled last weekend, so we were free to go wherever we would choose.  I'm glad we chose Walden Pond.

I read the book while I was camping across the southeast, then all the way up to Acadia in Maine. My solo journey and my reading and my loving canine companion, made for a heart warming, soul moving adventure I will never forget.  How I long to live that life... again.

When I came across the Whitman quote that starts off this post, it made me wonder, were Thoreau and Whitman contemporaries? So, naturally, I googled it, and yes, according to the Harvard archives, they were.

Below πŸ‘‡ is a lively article, about Thoreau and Whitman's one and only meeting, followed by some of Thoreau's impression of Whitman gleaned from Thoreau's journal entries, letters to friends, and Walden itself.

Here's a fun excerpt which I suspect just might remind my readers of ME.πŸ˜‹: "He (Thoreau) then notes Whitman’s “coarse nature,” but also his “sweet disposition.” Thoreau’s initial conclusion: Whitman is “essentially strange.”"

And I am back home but it seems I've brought a little bug from Boston with me, that or stirred up my allergies sufficiently along the way.

And one of our neighbor's old majestic trees fell on our power line at 6:58 this morning. Fireworks!!! And no electricity for 10 hours. Long lazy day...

But we're back in business now and I was inspired to do some more poetry.  Yes, I do poetry, I don't write it.  And today's Daily Discovery was weird again, but I worked through it. Here's your poem. Not angry or sad, just a little crappy feeling from"the bug", nothing a little chicken noodle soup won't fix.

So here you go, today's BDP- October 17, 2026, coming at you!!πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

BDP- October 17, 2026

Gave my heart to a man

And he hated me

All it takes is one arrow

Used to be an angel

Waiting for the fall

I'm the coming storm

I could be your friend

Can't believe what you do to me

I worship you

Come bless me

Please

Good things

I hope this email finds you well

Life's a gamble

Say your prayers

Don't be ashamed

You did

The best

You could

You don't have to be careful

I don't have to be right

Trying to ready myself for what's coming

Get

Away

From me...

I think I'll love you soon

Bloody sticks and stones

I wish I could heal you

You're numbing the pain

Too much on your brain

My boyfriend, he's got two

Mm-mm, wait, can we do this?

If I let you.

Grocery lists.
What do you want for dinner?
Sweet potatoes in the oven.
That's all she wrote...
              and chicken noodle soup!🍲
